Welcome and Create the World
About Blank Suit
Blank Suit is an alternative ruleset for Red Suit. It uses all the same rules, however, character creation is expanded to create a collaborative setting for the game using the ideas of the players rather than using an existing setting.
Create the World
First, you have to settle the setting. Each player will go around and suggest a Genre, an Element of the setting, or a Mystery. If it is easier to go more free form and just suggest parts of the world you want to see, you can do that as well. Each player and the Judge are expected to contribute at least one suggestion. Feel free to openly discuss and build details off each suggestion as well, even if it is not your turn. As well as offering their own themes, the Judge is expected to ask questions about ambiguities in the setting.
Some prompts to answer are below in case you get stuck:
- Suggest a Genre - These are the basic 'flavor' of the setting and are a good jumping point if you can't think of anything else. Some examples are listed below:
- Space Opera
- Cyberpunk
- Post Apocalyptic
- Dieselpunk Noir
- Victorian High Fantasy
- OR combine multiple genres
- Suggest an Element - Elements are rules and events about the world that changes the feel. Some examples are listed below:
- Magic is Rare
- All technology is powered by an energy source from a dimension called "The Drift"
- Mega corporations built the city up, with the poorest people living on the ground level and the richest living in the sky.
- The world has a Steam Fantasy Aesthetic with massive trains, steam powered cities and gunpowder weapons.
- The world ended, and we live in the ruins of that civilization
- Suggest a Mystery - These are unanswered questions about the world. Some examples are listed below:
- No one knows how the world ended,
- The entire city is built on a massive network of caves. Where they lead or what lurks down there, no one knows.
- In spite of how much society is built off of "The Drift," we know very little of where it comes from or what it really is.
- A tribe called the Conflux is hunting sorcerers. No one knows what happens to them after that.
This is creative story building by group collaboration, so there are some rules:
- You cannot use your turn to destroy something else someone placed in the world.
- You cannot place any element, genre, or mystery in the world without the entire group's consent.
- The final result cannot be played unless everyone is happy with it.
- This might mean that especially pushy and problematic players will make it so no game can start. This is by design.
