Challenges
Capitalizing on Flaws
Flaws in Red Suit provide unlimited ability to affect the narrative. They can be as simple as a Penalty Draw or as complex as creating an entire draw that wouldn’t normally be there. While it is never good that a player loses all agency of their character, they can even force an action or recolor a situation entirely, if the situation is egregious enough.
Advanced Enemies
Like I’ve mentioned before Red Suit isn’t a simulation, but a controlled narrative. Enemies don’t even take their own turns, but rather are apart of the “Bad Things” narrative when Black Suits are drawn.
For particularly challenging fights, you can bolster your enemies with some advantages rather than a ton of Traits. Feel free to add these to enemies as necessary.
- Massive Damage - This enemy deals 2 Hits when dealing damage if a Royal Black Suit (Jack, King, Queen, or Ace) is drawn this turn.
- Suggested for powerfully destructive enemies with near lethal hitting power.
- Attrition - This enemy deals 1 Hit when it receives damage to its attackers if a Royal Black Suit (Jack, King, Queen, or Ace) is drawn this turn.
- Suggested for adept foes or enemies with a passive ability to do damage, like being shrouded in spikes or fire.
- Sweep - This enemy deals 1 Hit to multiple characters when dealing damage, if a Royal Black Suit (Jack, King, Queen, or Ace) is drawn this turn. This number can include all players involved with exceptions made for specific situations.
- Suggested for enemies with multiple attacks, large sweeping attacks, or blasting attacks.
- Resistant - Any cards that are spent for a redraw have to be Red Suits when attacking this enemy.
- Suggested for enemies with tough hides, exceptional speed, or an ability to resist damage.
- This advantage can be altered to account for only specific kinds of attacks.
- Tough - This enemy can take 2 more hits before becoming Downed.
- Suggested for enemies with high resolve or nearly inhuman constitution.
- Mangler - This enemy deals a maim each time it deals damage, if a Royal Black Suit (Jack, King, Queen, or Ace) is drawn this turn.
- Suggested for enemies with grisly and cruel attacks.
- Heavy Armor - This enemy ignores 1 Hit this turn, if a Royal Black Suit (Jack, King, Queen, or Ace) is drawn this turn.
- Suggested for enemies with exceptionally tough hides, or a powerful ability to resist damage.
- Debilitating - This enemy makes characters discard a card from their hand when it deals damage.
- Suggested for enemies that induce panic, terror, or affect the mind.
Kneel Before Royalty
Most of these advantages trigger when a Royal Black Suit is drawn. This refers to any point in the draw and subsequent re-draws. Even if the card is discarded, or not the last card drawn, it will count towards activating these advantages.
